Debit and Credit Cards
VyStar’s rebrand in 2021 gave me the opportunity to work with senior leadership, internal departments and corporate sponsors to redesign VyStar’s entire card portfolio.
Goals
Align card designs with new brand direction.
Ensure designs have ample contrast from each other to address member concerns and confusion that our credit and debit cards looked too similar.
Create a consistent and flexible style for our sponsorship and high school card designs.
Debit Cards
Simplicity is the common theme with our standard card designs. With the redesign, we decided to move all member information to the back of the card, so the images you see here are exactly what a member sees when they see their cards.
We wanted our standard debit card to stand out amongst the other cards and also help signal change to our members, so we decided to prominently feature the light blue, a color that had been added to our palette during the rebrand.
As part of VyStar’s recommitment to being an organization that takes pride in supporting the military, I introduced the idea of a military themed card design for the members who want to show their support.
Credit Cards
To address the contrast concerns between our debit and credit cards, we opted for a vertical orientation for the credit cards and leveraged more of our color palette. This allowed us to maintain the consistent card design style while still being clearly different.
According to member research, it would be very rare for one person to have two different VyStar credit cards, so the contrast issues aren’t a concern.
Orlando Magic
As part of a partnership with the Orlando Magic, VyStar offers members cobranded debit and credit card options that have exclusive benefits.
The card design blends aspects of the Magic’s visual style with VyStar’s circle/curve motif that is featured throughout the brand collateral.
Sponsorships
VyStar’s cobranded card portfolio also features two ECHL (minor league hockey) teams, the Orlando Solar Bears and Savannah Ghost Pirates. Other than the Orlando Magic card, which was considered a special case since they are in a major sports league, all of our sponsorship and high school cards follow this general design style.
Business Cards
VyStar’s business members get a card that has a more professional and classy design. The designs are similar but we use darker and metallic colors to give that classy feel.
Health Savings Account & Home Equity Line of Credit
Our Health Savings (HSA) and Home Equity Line of Credit (HELOC) card designs feature icons that we use on the VyStar website.
High School Designs
VyStar offers a debit card design for each of the schools that has a student-run VyStar branch on campus. The designs mirror what we did for our other sponsorship card designs.
